Job Summary: -A Respiratory Therapist IV is an RCP who has been trained and is independent functional in general ward therapy RT procedures, adult ventilator management, arterial puncture for blood gas analysis and "specialty functions" that have been adjusted appropriate t shift need and approved by the Director of the Division of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine. Respiratory Care Service "specialty functions" include: Emergency Dept RT procedures: Management of Pediatric-Neonatal Ventilators and related adjuncts: Performance of capillary heel stick venipunctures for blood gas analysis; Performance of Bronchoscopy Assist RT procedures: Operation of respiratory care department computerized order entry and dispatch system. A Respiratory Therapists IV is expected to function as assigned in the subspecialty areas in which she/he has been trained and adjudged functionally competent.Primary Duties:1. Performance of Adult/Pediatric general ward therapy procedures including set-up/monitored of: free flow O2 therapy systems, bland aerosol systems; mechanical aerosol systems, volume expansion technique/devices; bronchial hygiene and non-invasive mechanical ventilator systems, specialty gases and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts used on adult patient populations including arterial puncture for blood gas analysis.2. Management of Newborn and Pediatric Ventilator Systems including set-up/management of continuous invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilator system, specialty gases and related monitoring and supportive adjuncts including Capillary Heel stick venipuncture for infant blood gas analysis.3. Performance of Emergency Department RT procedures: Set-up/monitoring of Adult and Pediatric Invasive and Non-invasive ventilator systems and adjuncts.4. Performance of Bronchoscopy assist RT procedures per approved service section protocols and as appropriate to shift need.5. Ability to manage patient care workload in critical care and non-critical care areas. Ability to work independently in the emergency departments. Set-up and troubleshoot nitric oxide delivery systems.6. Perform bedside and/or full bronchoscopy assist.7. Proficient in working in specialty units including PICU and NICU. -
Educational Requirements: -1. Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy2. Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)3. Master's degree in Respiratory Therapy (Preferred)Licenses: -1. Current American Heart Association BLS2. Licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (R.C.P.)3. Registered Respiratory Therapist4. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS)5. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)6. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)Experience:1. Six years full time experience as a respiratory therapist in an acute care tertiary center.2. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.Physical Demands: -Sitting, walking, standing, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
